A landmark defensive seawall and promenade in Charleston, South Carolina. Named for a civil-war coastal defense artillery battery at the site, it stretches along the lower shores of the Charleston peninsula, bordered by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers, which meet here to form Charleston harbor.

Beautiful public beach area with parking. Golfing, shopping, dining, festivals and events. The town lies along a narrow strip of land, hugging the beach, separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal Waterway. It is an affluent community of both vacation home owners and year-round residents, with large beachfront homes, resorts, and local restaurants. Beach volleyball is popular in the summer, and the "Windjammer" club hosts several tournaments throughout the year.

Sullivan's Island

Sullivan's Island is a town and island in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States, at the entrance to Charleston Harbor Beautiful Beach area that is public with shops and restaurants.
The point of entry for approximately 40 percent of the 400,000 enslaved Africansbrought to Colonial America, meaning that 99% of all African Americans have ancestors that came through the island.`{`6`}` It has been likened to Ellis Island, the 19th-century reception point for immigrants in New York City.`{`7`}` During the American Revolution, the island was the site of a major battle at Fort Sullivan on June 28, 1776, since renamed Fort Moultrie in honor of the American commander at the battle.
